Index"Haitz-Argia" (Stone Light) is a light art and mapping installation created for the fifth edition of the Umbra Light Festival. Located in the Plaza de la Provincia, the piece explores the latent energy of stone, using light as a tool to reveal the identity, history, and cultural legacy held within Álava's architecture.
Artistic Concept: The Awakening of the Rock
The piece is built on the idea that stone is not an inert element, but a vessel of collective memory. Under the concept of Haitz-Argia, the installation seeks to:
- Reveal the invisible: Use light to "extract" textures and forms that normally go unnoticed on the façade.
- Temporal Connection: Bring together the past (stone as a historical foundation) and the future (light and digital technology).
- Symbolism of Legacy: Represent how culture and community remain as solid as rock, yet are capable of transforming and shining.
Technical Challenge and Execution
Working in an urban festival setting like Umbra demands a perfect balance between visual power and respect for the surroundings:
Plaza Morphology: The projection was specifically designed to integrate with the architecture of the Plaza de la Provincia, using its reliefs to generate depth and volume effects.
Visual Narrative: Development of a content flow that evolves from the darkness and weight of the mineral to the lightness and dynamism of pure light. An ever-changing sequence of 12 blocks with three variations each, so that every viewer's experience is unique.
Sustainability and Efficiency: Following Umbra 2026's criteria, the installation was executed under strict energy-efficiency standards, using low-consumption, high-fidelity projection systems.
