Avant-Garde, Dance, and Visual Reconstruction at the Fundación Juan March

Video-scenography design for the historical and artistic revival of Les Ballets Espagnols by Antonia Mercé "La Argentina". A research and staging project at the Fundación Juan March, where video acted as the necessary bridge between the legacy of 1920s avant-garde and contemporary stage language.

The Creative Challenge: From Memory to the Stage

The main challenge was to reinterpret historical aesthetics through digital technology, while preserving the essence of the original backdrops and sets that defined "La Argentina"'s style.

  • Historical Documentation: Integration of visual elements based on period sketches and archives, giving them depth and movement.
  • Elegant Minimalism: Adapting the visual content to the intimate, sophisticated format of the Fundación Juan March auditorium.
  • Interaction with Dance: The video is not a backdrop, but an atmosphere that envelops the choreographic movement, respecting the codes of Spanish dance and avant-garde ballet.

Technical Execution

In this context, technique is placed at the service of texture and color:

Digital Treatment of Archives: Cleanup and subtle animation of original graphic elements so they feel alive on stage.

Critical Color Grading: Precise tone adjustment to replicate the palette of the Spanish avant-garde, ensuring the projection didn't "wash out" the costumes or lighting.

Precision Projection: Technical setup for clean integration onto the scenic elements, avoiding any technological distraction and reinforcing historical rigor.

Added Value

The result was an immersive experience that allowed today's audience to rediscover the modernity of "La Argentina". The video-scenography provided the visual continuity needed for the different ballets to flow as a total work of art, uniting music, dance, and visual art.

At the Juan March, video becomes a digital brush that recovers the colors and audacity of a golden age of our culture.
